Winter hiking path: Way of the Cross

The starting point of this special winter hike is the parking lot by the Sonnegg Bridge. From here, the path leads through the snow-covered forest to the Way of the Cross in the district of Au. This unique place was built with loving craftsmanship and great manual skill by Georg Gruber („Bricklayer Schorsch“) – a true life's work that still counts among the most beautiful spots in the Großarltal.

The Way of the Cross includes the Hubertus Chapel, five small chapels depicting the Passion of Jesus, as well as the nativity barn with a detailed alpine nativity scene. Especially in winter, when snow and silence envelop the forest, this place unfolds a very special atmosphere – a place of strength and reflection.
