In Johannes Brahms’ Second Symphony, the joy and happiness of Lake Wörthersee are incorporated into many melodies.

This work was created during the summer of 1877, the first of three summer stays at Lake Wörthersee. Gustav Mahler created a large part of his work in his composing house in Maiernigg. The friendship with the Mahler family led the composer Alban Berg to Velden, where he spent a lot of time composing his opera "Lulu". Hugo Wolf and Anton von Webern are also still honored today at the Wörthersee Classic Festival. Above all, Josef Viktor Fuchs and Franz Baumgartner - unnamed architects may forgive us - shaped the architectural image of Lake Wörthersee, with the so-called Wörthersee architecture. Fuchs' Werzerbad still invites you to sunbathe today, and three of Baumgartner's most important buildings, the Mösslacherhaus, the Villa Kointsch and the Hotel Carinthia, stand on Karawankenplatz in Velden. In some of these villas and castles you can still enjoy a sophisticated holiday and feel the flair of a beach orchestra and five o'clock tea. The fairytale and playful nature of these historical buildings has, as the recent past and planned projects show, given way to the demand for straightforwardness and functional lightweight construction. Wörthersee architecture or modernity, beach villa or design hotel - beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Klagenfurt also invites you to go on a castle hike - from Hallegg to Mageregg with its large zoo, around the state capital you can reside like a prince in some of the venerable castles and/or enjoy delicacies from Carinthian cuisine.

The Rosental Castle Road has cultural gems. Rosegg Castle with its wax museum, the Ebenau Castle Park with its land art sculptures or Ferlach Castle with its gunsmith and hunting museum are all worth a visit.
