This road cycling route runs on very good and asphalted cycle paths as well as secondary roads. Many inns along the route and the possibility of a refreshing swim in the Pillersee make this route an eventful outing on the road bike.
From the starting point the route goes via Zell am See and Maishofen to Saalfelden. Then the route leads through Leogang, Hochfilzen, St. Ulrich and Waidring to Lofer. From Lofer follow the well-asphalted Tauern cycle path to Saalfelden and then return via Maishofen and Zell am See to the starting point in Niedernsill.
The cycle path from Saalfelden to Hochfilzen is quite winding in Leogang - alternatively, the federal road can also be used sectionally (through Leogang). From Hochfilzen to Lofer you usually make good progress on quiet secondary roads. Shortly before Lofer you cycle downhill for a few minutes on the federal road. The cycle path in this area is partly unpaved and not suitable for road bikes. From Lofer to Saalfelden, most sections have good asphalt on the cycle path. The federal road would be less enjoyable here as there is usually a lot of traffic. The route can also be ridden in the reverse direction.
Right-hand traffic applies and the road traffic regulations must be observed. You are moving on public roads, please keep in mind that you have no crumple zone.
