Passauer Hütte

From the Ullachtal / Passauer Hütte parking lot, follow the signposts for Passauer Hütte Trail No. 623. From the hut, several route options are available:

Hochzint: From the Passauer Hütte, it is about a 10-minute walk west until you reach a fork in the path. Follow the signposts to Hochzint.

Two ascent options to the Birnhorn: The Hofer-Steig: From the Passauer Hütte, follow the path for about 10 minutes toward Hochzint, through the Melcherloch until you reach the Hofer-Steig. Ascent via the Kuchelnieder: From the hut, follow the path west to the Kuchelnieder, then climb over rocky ledges up to the summit of the Birnhorn.

Avoid the midday heat!

A large part of the ascent and descent to the Passauer Hütte is exposed to the sun. Hikers should start early to avoid the midday heat. Be sure to carry enough water for all hikers. Use sun protection and head coverings.

Surefootedness required!

The path is partly very steep and rocky. Recommended only for those without vertigo, surefooted, and experienced hikers.

BY CAR

Coming from Saalfelden, drive along the main road into the town of Leogang. On the right side of the main road is the Ritter bakery (Leogang 82, 5771 Leogang). Turn right just behind the bakery. You are now in the Rosental district. The parking lot at the "Steinbergstadion" football field can be found about 100 m behind the bakery on the left side. 

To get to the Ullachtal parking lot, drive past the Steinbergstadion and follow Rosental street. Always keep left until the "Priesteregg" junction. At this junction, turn right and follow the road for about 1.3 km until the Ullachtal / Passauer Hütte parking lot appears on the left side.

BY TRAIN

You can enjoy your vacation right from the start by train. No traffic jam can stop you from coming to Saalfelden Leogang! Furthermore, the ÖBB timetable helps you quickly and easily find the ideal train connection to the "Leogang Steinberge" station: www.oebb.at (about 30 minutes on foot to the starting point)

BY BUS

The starting point at the "Steinbergstadion" football field or the Ullachtal / Passauer Hütte parking lot can be reached by Postbus 690 (Line: Saalfelden - Leogang - Hochfilzen - Fieberbrunn - St. Johann i.T.) from Saalfelden or Leogang. From the "Leogang Ortsmitte" stop, the starting point of the hike can be reached on foot. Further information can be found at https://fahrplan.salzburg-verkehr.at/
