On the edge of the Castres ring road and adjacent to the Human Rights Greenway is the "Sensitive Natural Area of the Travet Meadows". This site of around 6 hectares comes from the return of land acquired by the State during the creation of the Castres ring road. The Tarn Department, now the owner, manages it as a heritage site. We are here at the sources of the Travet stream, where a complex of wet woodlands, wet meadows, and ponds has been preserved. But that's not all! rather dry meadows host a myriad of orchids. Each year a farmer conducts a late mowing to benefit the flora. An interesting site for many reasons, a "buffer" zone acting as a filter, home to a rich variety of insects and orchids at the gates of urbanized areas of Castres, the ENS of the Travet meadows constitutes a biodiversity island that should be preserved and enhanced.
1. From the parking lot, take the Human Rights Greenway along the path for 300 m north.
2. At the "ENS des prairies du Travet" sign, take a right and follow the sandy path towards a pier.
3. Cross a wet area, then a meadow.
4. Climb a few steps to find yourself back on the Human Rights path.
