HIKING BETWEEN THE CANAL DU MIDI AND BEZIERS

From the 9 locks parking lot, take the wooden ramp to the Canal du Midi towpath. Continue as far as the Tourist Information Office and walk down alongside the 9 Fonseranes locks.

Continue straight ahead along the canal promenade and onto the Port Notre-Dame quay. Walk 700m and cross avenue du Port Notre-Dame (crosswalk), then continue along the quay. Then cross Avenue de Sérignan (crosswalk) and continue along the quay to the River Orb. 2 on return : Go left along the 9 Fonseranes locks, walk along the Canal du Midi, then right along the wooden ramp to the parking lot.

Turn left and pass under the first bridge (on the right, view of Saint-Nazaire cathedral). Pass under the second bridge, continue straight ahead and take the pedestrian ramp on the left. At the end, turn left. Turn left again and cross the Pont Vieux. Continue straight ahead, up the park steps. Cross Avenue Valentin-Duc (be careful when crossing the road). Climb the stairs (or take the elevator), then take the footbridge leading to Saint-Nazaire Cathedral. > Return via Promenade Jacques-Hamel: viewpoint with orientation table.

From the cathedral forecourt, access the Jardin des Évêques (don't miss the climb to the bell tower - information in the cathedral). Turn right into rue Plan Monseigneur Blaquière and join Place de la Révolution. Continue straight ahead on rue Docteur Vernhes, cross Place des Bons Amis and continue along rue Viennet. At Place des Trois Six, turn left, pass the Tourist Information Office and cross the avenue. From Place Gabriel Péri, to the right of the town hall, take Rue du 4-Septembre. At the end, turn right down Allées Paul Riquet for 500m.

Cross avenue Maréchal Joffre and enter the pulbic garden, Plateau des Poètes. Follow the main path down to the Monument Aux Morts. After passing through the gates, walk on the left-hand sidewalk of Boulevard de Verdun (caution). Use the crosswalks around the traffic circle, then cross the tunnel on the left-hand sidewalk under the railway tracks. At the 2nd traffic circle, go straight ahead (crosswalk) on rue des Péniches. At the end, turn right onto the canal towpath, alongside the canal boat house. Continue for 400m along the Quai Port Neuf, and at the end, take an uphill path to rejoin the towpath. Follow the Canal du Midi, cross the Canal Bridge over the Orb and walk for 1 km. Pass under the footbridge and over a lock.
