Nanos

The cycling excursion starts in front of the Baroque Lanthieri Mansion in the center of the picturesque town of Vipava. From there, we ride through the avenue heading east, towards Ljubljana. Shortly after the village of Podnanos, there is a left turn towards Nanos. There begins an 8 km steep climb to the Nanos hunting lodge. A little further from the lodge, the road changes from asphalt to gravel. Soon we start climbing towards the Vojka lodge at the top of Nanos (1240 m), where after the long ascent we can enjoy a snack. From the top of Nanos, a very popular hiking spot, we get a view of the Vipava Valley, Kras, the Adriatic Sea, the Ljubljana Basin, and the Julian Alps. From here, it seems like the whole of Slovenia is within reach. From Vojka lodge, we descend westwards and then turn right towards Abram. This is followed by a shorter ascent up a slope that takes us to the popular tourist farm Abram. From there, we start descending through a beech forest towards Sanabor. In the village, we turn left and then shortly again to the left, from where we descend into the village of Vrhpolje, known for producing excellent wine. From the village of Vrhpolje, there is only a short way back to our starting point in Vipava.
