Circular hiking trail - "Glöcknerrunde" - Ruhla - Thuringian Forest

The starting point of the approx. 7 to 10 km long route is the parking lot "Schützenhaus". Right next door is also the Ruhla forest swimming pool. Follow the green triangle marking and go left past the Schützenhaus in the direction of the ski jumping facility "Alte Ruhl". This is where the young talents in ski jumping/Nordic combined are trained. After crossing the street, you reach the Storchswiese, which is very popular with cross-country skiers in winter. Now continue through the Beerwindental to the "Schillerbuche" on the Rennsteig. Once at the top, the "Imbiss zur Wallfahrt" invites you to a Thuringian sausage. Freshly strengthened, you can now take the detour to the Luther monument near Steinbach. There and back, it is only about 3 kilometers in total. The monument commemorates the fake kidnapping of Martin Luther on May 4, 1521, to the Wartburg. There he translated the New Testament into the German language. Via the Lutherweg, you return to the "Schillerbuche". Following the road for a while, you pass the "Glasbachstein". This stone was once supposed to be transported to Weimar, but the carriage broke under the stone's weight. Since then, it has been a distinctive point at the junction towards Winterstein/Bad Liebenstein and Brotterode. Crossing the street again, you reach the ridge trail of the Thuringian Forest, the Rennsteig. Surely Luther also used this historic border path on his journeys through the Thuringian region. After just under a kilometer, a narrow path branches off to the left about 30 m after the Finnhütte from the Rennsteig. After a few meters, you reach the "Ehrenmal Glöckner", also called "Klöckler". A seating area invites you to linger. The inscriptions on the large granite rock commemorate the members of the Rennsteig association who fell in the First World War. After your rest, you now climb the last meters to the Glöckner. Take a seat on the rock throne, which is surrounded by a sea of granite blocks and is a popular photo motif. Let your gaze wander over the Werra valley; on the horizon, you can already see the Rhön. It is hard to tear yourself away from this beautiful place. After a few meters, you have reached the Rennsteig again. The Große Meilerstätte comes after about 500 meters; here, you also say goodbye to the Rennsteig. Now turn left towards the Klinzingshütte and go steadily downhill through the Ungeheuren Grund towards the Ferienhaus Lichtung back to your starting point "Schützenhaus".
