Dachegg winter hiking trail

Start your hike at the Dacheggbauer. Entry onto the prepared trail: follow the prepared trail No. 68. Enjoy the beautiful view of the Hochkönig throughout the entire path. You have the option to choose between two routes. The forest path: shady, with snow-covered trees. The meadow path: open areas with a direct view of the Hochkönig. Stop to admire the quiet nature and the beautiful views. Return along the same path to the Dacheggbauer.

Clothing: warm, layered clothing, hat, gloves, non-slip boots

Equipment: day backpack, hiking poles, headlamp, possibly crampons or snowshoes

Safety & Navigation: mobile phone, map/GPS, first aid kit, whistle

Provision: water, snacks, thermos flask

Optional: sunglasses, sunscreen, seat pad

Check the weather: Check current weather and avalanche reports before the tour.

Proper clothing: Layered, waterproof, warm, with hat, gloves and non-slip boots.

Equipment: Hiking poles, headlamp, map/GPS, mobile phone, first aid kit. Possible snowshoes or crampons on ice or snow.

Consider condition: Adjust pace to your own fitness.

Use daylight: Winter days are short – plan enough time.

Avoid slipping hazards: Walk carefully, use poles and non-slip soles.

Provision: Bring water, warm drinks and snacks.

Emergency plan: Inform someone about your route, have emergency numbers ready.

Respect nature: Do not leave paths, avoid avalanche and wildlife protection areas.

Arrival from Salzburg: On the A10 motorway to the Bischofshofen exit, then on the B311 towards Bischofshofen. Follow the Hochkönig federal road/B164 to Mühlbach and then to Dienten.
Arrival from Innsbruck/Kufstein: On the Loferer Straße/B178 towards St. Johann i.T., then via the Hochkönig federal road/B164 via Saalfelden and Maria Alm to Dienten or to Filzensattel.
A valid vignette is required to use the Austrian motorway and expressway network. Carrying a first aid kit, warning triangle and reflective vest is also mandatory. For more information, see Asfinag.
