Many reasons speak for a visit to the hiking region around the spa town of Bad Dürrnberg. Whether it is the blooming liverleaf, wood anemones, and huge wild garlic carpets in spring, or the colorful foliage and the warming sun of Indian summer in autumn. Whether in spring, summer, autumn, or winter, the simple but attractive hike from Bad Dürrnberg to the Barmsteins and down to Hallein enchants us in every season.
It starts at the Pilgrimage Church in the spa town of Bad Dürrnberg. Opposite the church, we walk into Freudenbergweg and past the cemetery. Behind the cemetery, we turn right and walk towards a beautiful farmhouse. Behind the house, we cross a meadow and go up to the edge of the forest. On a comfortable path, we cross the forest and arrive at a clearing after about 500 meters. We turn right, walk between the houses, and pass the Mary Chapel. Below the small chapel begins the forest path 'Hühnerleiten.' The path leads us downhill in a large arc, and we always follow the signs towards 'Barmsteine via Hühnerleiten.' At the street, we turn right and walk down to Dürrnbergstraße but turn left just before it. Past the houses, we circle a small wooded rise on the left and then continue straight ahead. Soon we reach a large meadow. We cross a wooden bridge and walk partly through the meadow, partly up steps to the hill to the former café s'Bamstoa. In front of the house, a path leads eastwards to the Thürndl ruin. We pass the ruin and follow the path, which leads us in switchbacks down the mountain. After some time, we reach Dürrnbergstraße and turn left. We follow it for a few meters towards the avalanche gallery and turn right before it onto 'Antoniusweg,' which leads us on a short way directly to the parish church of Hallein.
