Along the entire path, you will encounter historic stone buildings (churches, small monuments) and natural places. Built solidly, the stone withstands time. For many, stone is not just a building material but contains much healing power. The healing power of stones is recognized in many cultures and is an essential part of medicine, ritual, and daily life. Stone is omnipresent in our region. Our landscape is shaped by it. Take your time and feel the power of the stones.
Along this path, consciously engage with your thoughts. Let the power of the landscape and surroundings affect you. Bring body, mind, and soul into harmony.
The Stone
For some, a stone seems just a mute, lifeless thing,
A stone lies around, delights or makes people stumble,
A stone can feel rough, smooth, pointed, or round.
A stone, where does it come from, what could it have once been?
A stone conveys a feeling of strength, permanence, and infinity.
A stone is not only mute and lifeless,
A stone in your hand becomes a warm, cuddly form whose strength and permanence may affect you.
A stone can activate your energies,
A stone can give you an idea of the permanence of its change and its eternity.
The Path of Silence begins at the town hall square in Saalfelden and leads over the hermitage to the Bachwinkl district.
From the starting point, go beside the municipal building to the Saalfelden parish church. The next station is the Protestant church. Upon reaching Bürgerau, first cross a bridge past Lichtenberg Castle through the woods and after about 30 minutes reach the hermitage, which is built below the cave on the rocks. A narrow hiking trail leads down the Palfen, past Buchbichlgut to the Bachwinkl district. To return to the starting point, either walk back to the city center (about 30 minutes) or take the next city bus.
BY CAR
Coming from Zell am See on the Pinzgau federal road B311, turn toward Maria Alm at the third roundabout near the Interspar. Then go straight through the former city gate at the second roundabout. The public parking lot located there can be used for 90 minutes with a parking disc. On weekends after 12 pm and on weekdays from 6 pm, parking is free.

Quote Hermit Raimund von der Thannen (2004 to 2015 at Palfen):
"More than ever, our world needs places like the hermitage on Palfen. Places of silence, solitude, simplicity, places as counterpoints to economic overpressure, stock market rates, car races, and consumer madness. Such places are needed because at them what works inside many people can break out and actually does: the longing for transcendence."
