We take the Pizolbahnen gondola and chairlift to the Pizolhütte at 2,221 meters above sea level, where we begin our mountain hike through the Sardona Tectonic Arena, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. On the way to the Lavtina Pass—the highest point of the hike at 2,586 meters above sea level—we pass Wildsee, one of the five lakes on the famous Pizol 5-Lakes Hike. From the Lavtinasattel, the trail leads downhill to the Batöni Waterfall Arena. There, from left to right, we’ll see the Piltschina Falls (81 m), the Sässbach Falls (86 m), and the Muttenbach Falls (45 m). Since the route passes through sensitive wildlife habitats, we’ll stay on the trails, take our trash with us, respect wildlife quiet zones, and keep drones on the ground. We’ll avoid wild camping and use the official lodging options in the valley. With good physical conditioning and sure-footedness, we’ll master this challenging high-mountain tour amid glacier views, waterfalls, and the silence of the mountains.

This beautiful mountain hike begins at the Pizol Hut at 2,221 meters above sea level. You can reach it via the Pizolbahnen gondola and chairlift. On the way to the hike’s highest point, the Lavtinasattel at 2,586 meters above sea level, you’ll pass the Wildsee, a popular photo spot and one of the five lakes on the famous Pizol 5-Lakes Hike. From the Lavtinasattel, the trail is practically all downhill to the Batöni Waterfall Arena and then on to Weisstannen. A large portion of the trail runs through the Graue Hörner hunting reserve and thus through sensitive natural areas. We therefore follow the rules that apply here.
