At the start and finish point, there is not only parking directly at the scenic Gartower Lake but also a horse bathing spot on the west shore! This spot is popular with both humans and animals after rides.
Your path then takes you through the scenic Elbholz Avenue, which features ancient trees. Many tree giants within Elbholz itself are also ancient, which impresses with its naturalness. In the middle of it, away from the world and often without electricity and internet, lies the Elbholz settlement.
Afterward, you may take a look into the Elbe valley and floodplain forests and then reach the Pevestorfer meadows. Not far away rises the Höhbeck, which you then (cross) traverse.
After crossing the Höhbeck, the path leads through the Seege lowland into the Meetschower Forest. Finally, you pass by the "Woodhenge" and return to the lake.
Sometimes sandy forest paths, sometimes asphalted field paths, partly roads.

From May into late summer: don’t forget mosquito repellent!
The entire Gartow region is wolf territory. An encounter with Isegrim is very unlikely but possible.
The route runs along/over various roads. Therefore, "reliable" horses and riders are required.
Drive from Hamburg via the A1 (signposted toward Bremen), A39 (signposted toward Lüneburg) to Lüneburg. From there take the B216 (signposted toward B216/Dannenberg/Dahlenburg/Bleckede) to Dannenberg and follow the L256 to Gartow.
From Berlin, take the A10 (signposted toward Hamburg), A24 (also toward Hamburg), and then continue on B189 (toward Pritzwalk/Heiligengrabe). Then follow the B493 to Gartow.
To even begin to describe the Elbholz and the special features of the Höhbeck, it would require books. Few other areas have such a high species density. Geological special features are added. Anyone who still wants to inform themselves in advance, please browse here:
The Höhbeck, dissertation by Dr. Hartmut Christier.
Many tips about the Höhbeck can also be found here as well as on the "Excursion Destinations" page under Gartow-Erleben.de.
Regarding equestrian sports in the Gartow region, interested parties can find various information on the homepage of the Samtgemeinde Gartow.

Get to know the Höhbeck before or after the ride!
Due to its natural location, the Höhbeck has an especially large diversity of flora and fauna.
A "must" is the observation tower on the Schwedenschanze. Here guests can learn about the geological special features of this striking elevation on various information boards. The view from the platform reaches many kilometers on clear days.
Finally, the "Zeitfenster" nature trail (nature and history of the Höhbeck) invites you to stroll. Here, visitors are taken back to the time of Charlemagne, among other things.
