Snowshoe hike to the Mussen

Beautiful route with magnificent views into the Gail valley and the nearby Julian Alps. From the village end in St. Jakob (940 m), partly over snow-covered forest paths and the summer hiking trail, you walk through wooded areas to the open spaces of the Mussen. Across wide slopes upwards and along the ridge to the highest point at 2,040 m. This long ascent is worth it for the panoramic view. The descent either follows the ascent track back to St. Jakob or from the forest edge via the Lum meadows to the Strenge guesthouse and along the road to Podlanig (bus stop). You should plan 6 – 7 hours for the entire round.
