This short but charming road bike route starts at Lake Ossiach and takes you through the gentle hilly landscape of Carinthia to the idyllic Lake Maltschach. The route offers moderate climbs and quiet side roads, ideal for a relaxed ride through picturesque villages and green meadows. Upon arrival at Lake Maltschach, you can take a break and enjoy the view over the clear water before leisurely returning to Lake Ossiach.
Starting from Ossiach, the route heads east along the bike path or the lightly trafficked south shore road of Lake Ossiach. After about 3.5 kilometers, turn left and follow the road to the railway overpass. Before the overpass, turn right and follow the side road to an underpass near a farm. After the underpass, take the main road and after about 1 to 2 kilometers, turn right and head along the side roads to Feldkirchen. In Feldkirchen, take the main road towards St. Veit/Glan and follow it to the St. Martin junction. Here turn right over the railway crossing into the village. Then turn right again to Lake Maltschach. Pass it until reaching Oberglan along side roads. After Oberglan turn right towards Ossiach Tauern and then immediately right onto Schwarze Straße. Follow this until it turns left towards Ossiach and return to the starting point.
Suitable road bike, tools and safety equipment, helmet, sufficient fluids.
From Villach via the L49 to Ossiach.
There are plenty of parking spaces available in Ossiach. These are chargeable during the summer months.
