Cycling route Zgornje Jezersko – Sp. Virnik organic farm – Zgornje Jezersko

On this trip, we will first descend along the main road to the first junction in Spodnji Kraj, where we turn right towards the upper Kokra valley. While cycling through the valley, a view of Virnikov Grintovec opens up on our right. We continue straight along the asphalt road and after the first ascent, we reach the slag deposits, which are a special feature of this area. We continue straight and observe the calcareous tufa spring during the ride. After about a kilometer, we reach a junction where we turn right. The path steeply ascends briefly after crossing a stream to Smrečje, where we quietly follow the path past weekend houses. Soon, we arrive at a pasture below Golobja peč, then carefully, so as not to scare the domestic animals grazing, descend to the Spodnji Virnik organic farm, where the views of the Grintovces enchant us again. At the farm, we leave the bike and proceed on foot to the calcareous tufa spring a few minutes away. This is a special natural landmark where rock practically forms before our eyes, as the water contains a high level of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), which precipitates at the spring and forms the tufa. We recommend bringing a backpack, as excellent dairy products from cheeses, yogurts to curd cheese are always found at the Spodnji Virnik organic farm. From the farm, we descend along the gravel road to the valley and return along the main road to the starting point.
