The B33 Hexenhügel Bicycle Trail connects the B32 Rosalia Bicycle Trail with the B11 Leitha Bicycle Trail and runs from Mattersburg through Sigleß to Zillingtal. This varied route impressively combines nature, culture, and regional culinary delights, making it ideal for leisurely bike rides.
A special highlight along the route are the extraordinary landscape artworks by Sigleß-based artist Heinz Bruckschwaiger. Works such as the “Oktaeder” and the “Himmelsleiter” blend harmoniously into the landscape and create striking focal points. They invite you to pause briefly, take in your surroundings, and experience art under the open sky.
The bike path is named after the mysterious “Hexenhügel” (Witches’ Hill) near Sigleß—an impressive burial mound from the Hallstatt period. Standing over three meters high and measuring about 50 meters in diameter, the burial mound is one of the region’s most significant prehistoric archaeological sites. This historic site offers fascinating insights into the early settlement of Burgenland, and its legendary name sparks the imagination.
After an eventful tour, the cozy wine taverns in Sigleß invite you to enjoy a delightful break. You can round off your excursion in a relaxed atmosphere with regional specialties and Burgenland wines.
The B33 Hexenhügel Bicycle Trail uniquely combines exercise, art, history, and cuisine, making it a rewarding destination for anyone who wants to discover Burgenland with all their senses.
The bike tour begins in downtown Mattersburg and follows paved paths all the way out into the region’s charming countryside. After setting off, you’ll reach a roundabout, where you’ll take the third exit onto Wienerstraße. After about 200 meters, turn right onto Hirtengasse and then follow Angergasse, which begins with a short climb to set the tone for the rest of the route.
Stay on the road and follow the signs for the B33 Hexenhügel Bike Trail. The well-developed signage system guides you through a varied cultural landscape with colorful fields and offers beautiful views of the surroundings at regular intervals.
The route eventually leads to the junction with the B11 Leitha Bike Trail in Zillingtal, where further opportunities for extended bike tours through the region open up.

A bike helmet, athletic clothing, rain and sun protection, and a bottle of drinking water should always be with you.
Since many bike paths are farm roads, you can expect to encounter farm vehicles there. Mutual consideration ensures that these paths remain pleasant for everyone to use.
In Austria, children up to age 12 are required to wear a bicycle helmet. High-visibility vests are not mandatory at dusk, in the dark, or in poor visibility, but they are certainly beneficial. Click here for the Austrian Bicycle Regulations.
