Route/Trail and trail condition: The tour mainly follows paved or gravel forest trails (partly on roads) and is suitable for touring/trekking bikes, mountain bikes, or e-bikes. However, due to the climbs at the start of the route and shortly before Frauenalb, a bike with good gearing is recommended. The route is less suitable for city bikes.
Start coordinates degrees and minutes (WGS84):
N48° 48.462' E8° 26.683'
0.0 km Start at the marking stone roundabout at the town entrance to Bad Herrenalb. Follow the initially paved forest path steadily uphill towards Rotensol/Neusatz and stay on this path until it leads to Rotensol.
2.2 km At the end of the street, turn onto the road (Mönchstraße) and follow it towards Neusatz.
3.0 km It is worth stopping here to enjoy a wide view of the Rhine Valley and, in good weather, as far as the Vosges and the Palatinate. Then continue following the road to Neusatz.
3.9 km Shortly after Neusatz church (to the right), turn left and follow the road. After leaving the town, continue on this road in a fast and winding descent.
5.7 km Caution!!! Do not miss the turn here due to speed. Just before the road rises slightly again, sharply turn left (150°) onto a partly gravel path and follow it. Continue downhill along the left side of the Holzbach stream.
7.1 km Turn right here over the bridge, and after 50 meters, immediately turn left back onto the road - and continue downhill through the Holzbachtal.
8.6 km At the former Hotel “Bergschmiede,” turn left off the road and after about 80 meters, right onto the forest path.
9.0 km Follow the right path downhill again… During this section, the Holzbachtal merges into the Maisenbachtal, and the ride follows the left side along the Maisenbach stream towards the valley.
10.3 km Turn left here and follow a short piece of the paved road towards Schielberg and after about 200 meters at
10.5 km leave the road at the curve and go straight onto the forest path.
10.7 km Keep right and follow the forest path, continuing downhill in the Maisenbachtal.
12.0 km Two options are available here: straight ahead after about 300 meters is a road descending towards Marxzell and is easier to ride. However, those who prefer trails should turn right here, as a single trail leads into the valley.
12.6 km From here, also take the road a short distance downhill towards Marxzell.
12.7 km At the end of the road, turn right and follow a short stretch of Albtalstraße.
12.8 km Here, a visit to the vehicle museum on the right side is recommended. If not interested, turn left here and follow the road towards Burbach.
13.1 km At the hairpin curve, leave the road and go straight onto the bike path (Graf-Rhena-Weg), which runs along the right side of the Alb river. Follow this path for 3 km. After a further significant ascent…
16.1 km …turn left onto the paved path downhill and follow for about 300 meters.
16.4 km It is worth stopping again here to visit the Frauenalb monastery ruins. Then continue right on the Graf-Rhena-Weg and through the Albtal towards Bad Herrenalb.
18.9 km At the end of the bike path, turn left onto the road and follow it through Kullenmühle.
19.7 km Destination reached… and back at the starting point at the roundabout town entrance Bad Herrenalb.
