Between Passo della Bassa and Passo della Maggia you can even admire from above the Valle di Lodano, a region which, because of the richness of its ancient beech forests, is among the candidates to become a UNESCO World Heritage site. After a quick visit to Madone, you reach Monte di Pino, resting on a breathtaking ridge for its scenery. Steep descent to Passo della Garina and final ascent to Salmone. In theory, the stage ends at the summit, where in the coming years a new refuge could be built. In practice, at the moment you have to descend to the valley before dusk: the fastest variant, via Auressio, requires about one and a half hours. For those who still have energy and time, it is possible to link the next stage (which is also the last).

The Via Alta Vallemaggia alternates between mountain trails (T3) and alpine tracks (T4-T5–). Occasionally it is necessary to face short sections exposed to the risk of falling and simple climbing parts. Often the more delicate passages are equipped with chains or crampons.
Some huts open their doors already in June, when the connecting stages are usually still snowy. Generally, the best season for trekking is from July to September/October. However, even in mid-summer it is advisable to contact the wardens to inquire about the passability of the route. Booking overnight stays is mandatory to avoid unpleasant surprises and being left without accommodation.
Requirements:
Good experience in alpine environment Adequate physical condition Detailed planning (possible descents to the valley, weather, etc.) Surefootedness off trails and no fear of heightsConsiderations not to underestimate:
High altitude Sudden weather changes Presence of snowfields at the beginning of the season Travel times (especially with large groups) Often no phone signal reception Lack of potable water springs along some stagesSwiss REGA emergency number: 1414
General emergency number (international): 112
Calling 112 transfers the call directly to the appropriate rescue unit (ambulance, police, fire brigade). The number 112 can be called on the GSM network even if the SIM card or the phone is locked. In almost all countries, 112 works on the GSM network. Outside Switzerland, it also works without a SIM card.
In case of emergency:
Stay calm Protect the injured and people in difficulty from further dangers, cold, and bad weather Provide first aid Call for help and initiate rescue operations; do not leave the injured alone Also consider your own safetyT3
