The Verzasca Valley is known as the green heart of Ticino. It is the geographic and energetic center of Ticino. With a route from Sonogno to Püscen Negro, we will discover some of the main energetic places in the valley.
The village of Sonogno is located at the confluence of streams coming from the Vegorness Valley and the Redorta Valley. Placing villages and places of worship near a confluence of watercourses is positive from the energetic flow point of view, as well as being a custom already appreciated by the ancients.
The church of Santa Maria di Loreto in Sonogno has a black Madonna like the original in Loreto. Black Madonnas are thought by scholars to refer to the Goddess Isis holding the child, to earth deities or to Indo-European black goddesses linked to the mystery of nature's cycles. She is the patron saint of Sonogno.
The Froda waterfall is an energetic site that amazes for its beauty, the color of the water, and the rocky frame surrounding it. The ionized air of the waterfalls is very beneficial and, with the roar of the water, can have an activating effect on the human body.
Further ahead, in Fraced, there is the confluence of the streams of the Redorta. This is a loved and frequented place, with a beautiful river area with smoothed rocks and a view of the mountain crown of the Redorta.
Püscen Negro (it is assumed that "Püscen" derives from the dialect term "Püscèd", meaning "fir forest" – therefore, Püscen Negro = "dark or black fir forest") is the final energetic point of this walk. It is a small charming hamlet of rustic buildings from which you can admire the valley crossed by widening the gaze to the feet of Sonogno.
Sonogno (918m asl) can be reached by bus no. 321 from Locarno or by car. After visiting the village and church, turn right exiting the church. You can go through the forest, crossing the footbridge over the stream at the end of the church road, or by the paved road. In both cases, the walk continues on a slight uphill along the stream and leads to the Froda waterfall (955 m asl), which can be visited closely. Then continue along the paved road to its end. Here there are nice small pools and immediately after the confluence of several streams of the Redorta. If desired, you can continue on the medium-difficulty hiking trail to Püscen Negro (1315 m asl). The full excursion to Püscen Negro takes about 2h45 for the round trip, but it is recommended to have much more time available to linger at the various energetic points along the route and to take breaks.
