Agarone-Alpe Ruscada-Capanna Borgna-Agarone

This challenging two-day mountain route starts in Agarone, a small hillside village accessible by car or bus from Tenero/Gordola. Through woods and chestnut groves, the trail leads via Monti Velloni to Corte di Mezzo. The landscape then becomes more alpine: passing Alpe Ruscada and Corte di Cima, you climb to Passo di Ruscada, the highest point of the tour. Experienced mountaineers can continue from here to Cima dell’Uomo (approx. 1 hour). The route then leads to Capanna Borgna, an unattended hut on a wide alp with an impressive mountain backdrop. Open from May to October, it has a WC/shower, kitchen and drinks. On the second day, the route returns via Forcola to Gana and then follows the familiar trail over Monti Velloni back down to Agarone.

Warning: At Alpe Ruscada there are flocks of sheep guarded by guard dogs.
