On the trail of transhumance in the Biella area

The route alternates between dirt paths and quiet secondary roads, passing through Callabiana.

A scenic detour takes us to the Camandona Dam, a mountain lake nestled between the peaks, before we reach the Sanctuary of Mazzucco, a spiritual haven deep in the woods.

Here begins one of the most fascinating sections of the route: the Transhumance Road, an ancient path once used by shepherds moving to the high pastures. It leads us to Bocchetto Sessera, the gateway to the Oasi Zegna. The view opens up to the Biellese Alps and the vast, wild Upper Sessera Valley, offering one of the most striking moments of the itinerary.

Next comes a technical yet deeply rewarding descent on a singletrack through the Monte Casto woods—one of the most beloved areas for local mountain bikers, thanks to its trails immersed in nature.

The trail leads to the paved road near Cascina degli Eremiti, from where we pick up a gentle downhill path back to Andorno Micca, closing a perfect loop of challenging climbs, panoramic descents, local history, and breathtaking landscapes.
