The route is bidirectional, you can start from Milan (the side with less elevation) or from Casale Monferrato. The indications on the reference website provide the track starting from Casale Monferrato, while on the Pedalare il Monferrato website you can download the track starting from Milan.
The route is for everyone and can also be done in two stages, with an overnight stop near Novara. Camping Playa di Valverde in Galliate is recommended, right in front of the Ticino Park, where you can admire the river that originates in Switzerland, in the homonymous Canton Ticino, which after forming Lake Maggiore flows for about 110 km until the mouth of the Po river at Ponte Becca di Pavia.
The Naviglio Grande benefits exactly from the water of the Ticino river, after a network of about 50 km of canals.
The Naviglio Grande bike paths, from Turbigo to Milan Darsena, are all on comfortable paved roads where only cyclists and pedestrians are found (cyclists should keep a moderate speed and respect pedestrian traffic) without any elevation for a total of 43 km (23 from Turbigo to Abbiategrasso and about 20 from Abbiategrasso, Magenta, and Milan).
A stop at San Nazzaro Sesia for the visit to the Abbey of Saints Nazarius and Celsus is almost mandatory, immersed in its millenary history (the Abbey dates back to 1040 AD), while the settlement of San Nazzaro Sesia is presumed to be about 500 years older than the Abbey.
Near Vercelli it is a pleasure to cycle discovering the natural beauties, fauna, and typical flora of the area, in the Sesia Lame Park, a protected natural area extending for about 900 hectares on a stretch of almost 8 km.
