At the Möhnesee, you can enjoy the landscape. For those interested, the lake offers good opportunities for bird watching. Around 25 species of water birds occur regularly. In the winter months, large populations of goosanders, common mergansers, and tufted ducks stay here, while during migration periods, ospreys sometimes appear. Throughout the year, goldeneyes and great crested grebes live on the lake. Cormorants come to the lake to feed from mid-August to the end of September. Mostly in the late afternoon, they gather near the Heve Peninsula. From there, the animals can be observed from three viewing points. Only about 100 birds remain at the lake all year round.

In the rocky areas of the lakeshore, there are large beds of cockles or wandering mussels, which are an important food source for diving ducks and coots.
