"T4" - Themed cycling round route - Stroll through history - Around Herzberg am Harz

The T4 starts at the Hotel “Englischer Hof” in Herzberg am Harz heading towards Scharzfeld. Here, the first highlights away from the T4 attract visitors, for example, the much-visited Einhorn Cave or the Scharzfels castle ruins, each with a hiking lodge.

It continues towards Barbis, passing to the right of the flower pavilion in the town center, into the beautiful “Königshagener Land.” This multifaceted landscape of the Fore Harz features some sections with steep ascents and descents. Passing the wind turbines on the Rotenberg, the route leads to Pöhlde and there past the sawmill. After a short, steep climb, we reach the medieval fast track. As a reward, the remains of the former castle complex “King Heinrich's Vogelherd” await exploration; alternatively, a rest break is possible at the rest area (with playground). From here, the T4 mainly follows a flat route through a lovely deciduous and mixed forest.

After another descent, the route passes through the fields to Hattorf am Harz and on a secondary route northwards to Hörden am Harz. Through a gradually opening landscape with gentle climbs, the T4 reaches Herzberg am Harz's city limits and offers a beautiful view of the town and the Harz mountains.

Passing the noteworthy Welf castle with restaurant and museum, the route returns to the starting point. As a conclusion, the newly designed town center of Herzberg am Harz is recommended for a little stroll or a walk around the Juessee lake.
