The route from Ramssattel to Raach am Hochgebirge is perfect for a leisurely winter hike above the sea of fog. Besides panoramic views, culinary enjoyment is not neglected: the route connects two well-known inns – Ramswirt of the Pichler family and the Diewald inn in Raach am Hochgebirge.

Start at Ramswirt and walk uphill along the road towards Raach am Hochgebirge. At the road fork, go straight ahead onto a forest path. Before entering the forest, look to the right and enjoy the unique view of Rax and Schneeberg.
Now stroll through the forest on the route that used to be the road between Rams and Raach. With large amounts of snow, snow drifts can occur here repeatedly. As an alternative to the forest path, you can take the paved road (at the fork, right, downhill).
Follow the path until you reach a small chapel. From here, you can hike back to Rams on the road to the right or continue on the road to Raach am Hochgebirge to the left. You walk past the forest cemetery until you reach the small idyllic village of Raach and the Diewald inn. In addition to the inn and its nostalgic grocery, the local parish church is also worth a visit.
For the return journey, walk back along the road to the chapel. Now you can decide whether you want to take the forest path or the cleared road back to the starting point.

Sturdy footwear, poles (with snow plates for snow), waterproof outdoor clothing, hat, gloves, scarf or multifunctional cloth, backpack, headlamp (days are shorter in winter), sunglasses, sun and/or cold protection, water bottle, or thermos flask are essential in winter.
The route partly runs through forests and on unpaved paths. In snowy conditions, the paths are not cleared and may have icy or slippery spots. Use of the paths is at your own risk. It is recommended to watch out for early dusk and to plan the routes carefully.
S6 motorway exit Gloggnitz - through Enzenreith and Kranichberg to Ramssattel.
If you start the route in Raach am Hochgebirge, the hike is quickly and easily accessible by public transport.
You can reach Raach from Gloggnitz train station by regional bus 367.
Parking is available at Ramswirt and the Diewald inn.
