Worth seeing
Pöggstall Castle - in 2017 it was venue for the Lower Austrian State Exhibition "Alles was Recht ist" - houses a museum on legal history including the only "original" torture chamber and a documentation on the life and work of the artist Franz Traunfellner (reopening in late autumn 2020). Equally exciting is the special exhibition "Pöggstall Castle - between region and imperial court" in the barbican about the eventful restoration, significant finds and astonishing stories about the castle's lords. A 3D animation clearly shows how the keep, or later the castle, grew from its original layout to its current form.

Besides Pöggstall Castle with its barbican, also worth seeing are the very old St. Anna church in the field (1140), the parish church of Pöggstall and the pilgrimage church in Neukirchen (1118) on the Ostrong, which is older as a pilgrimage church than Maria Taferl.

Leisure tips
4 tennis courts, beach volleyball court, soccer field, a covered multisport facility, children's playgrounds, campsite, mountain bike and cycling routes, fishing and riding opportunities, Laas horse farm, Texas Longhorn Austria, Hotglass Atelier Faffelberger, Schrammel herb farm, brand painting Josef Mitmasser.

You start from the main square through the barbican of Pöggstall Castle (restaurant "Das Rogendorf") to the tavern square. From there, you switch to the main street. Past the Pöggstall pizzeria into Badgasse near Pension Gerstbauer. Shortly after, you reach the lowest point of the hike. The Weitenbach Bridge, which is at 442 meters. Then you take the junction turnoff Laas/Krempersbach. To Laas, turn left through the forest on the pilgrim's path to Maria Taferl towards Wachtberg and past the crossroads to Unterhohenau. Continuing on the pilgrim path to the state road to Neukirchen past the Sommer inn. Here you already reach the highest point in Arndorf at 754 meters. The hike leads through Weißpyhra and Würnsdorf past the inns Zur alten Schmied, Haider and the Gasthau Groiss. Continuing to Dietsam, Kienberg and in Sading over a field path to the old post road (path no. 63). After crossing the stream to Bergern, walk left on forest paths to Loibersdorf. There you find the Wiaz´Haus Heuriger Kalkofen. Finally, take the municipal road to Pöggstall. Passing Raiffeisenplatz, the Neuhauser café, the PizzaEck and the inn Zur Blauen Traube. Eventually, you reach the end point, the main square.

Sturdy footwear is sufficient, optionally functional clothing, sun and rain protection, maps, possibly telescopic poles, first aid kit (blister plasters), provisions (snack, muesli bars, fruit, water)

For winter hikes, we recommend a thermos with warm drinks, warming functional clothing, headgear as well as gloves, pocket or headlamp.

Make sure when choosing the route that it matches your fitness level. Check if the restaurants you want to visit along the way are open. Pack your mobile phone and maps in your backpack.
