One of the highest castles in Styria towers over the Mur valley.

Perched 1,209 meters above the Mur Valley, this former fortress—considered the highest castle ruin in Styria—tells of a time of great power. The castle once featured five massive round towers with battlements, and the main keep stood five stories high. Restored and made accessible by the Castle Association, visitors can still experience this awe-inspiring structure today.

With a touch of adventurous spirit, the ancient walls of Styria’s largest and highest-altitude castle ruin can be freely explored.
Guided tours are available by appointment and offer fascinating historical insights.

Just below the castle ruins lies the Steinschlosshütte, which is open from May through October and is a great place to stop for a break.
You can find information about the opening hours on the website.
