Popis

START: Bertiz Natural Park, Rural Tourism Office and Reception Area. Information panel. After a short flat section along a wide path, you reach a charcoal pit. Leave the main path (for the return) and ascend to the left along a steep trail crossing an area of logging and reforestation with native trees. After passing an old chestnut grove, the trail levels out halfway up the hillside, through beech and oak forests, to a fork (p.k. 2.950): descend to the right, passing the Iturburua spring and crossing the stream. Return along the wide path to the start of the route. From there you can extend the walk to the medieval Erreparazea bridge (1.4 km round trip) over the Bidasoa river.

Informace o prohlídce

The Bertiz Lordship Natural Park is located in the wet Navarra region, on its Cantabrian slope. Declared a natural park in 1984, it is a transition area between oak forest and beech forest, which here reaches a low altitude. You can learn about old forest trades (charcoal burning, lime kilns and chestnut gathering). Difficult to observe, its forest shelters the seven species of woodpecker that inhabit the Iberian Peninsula. The trail is named after the spring found along its route (Iturburua, in Basque: spring).
