Before you set off to meet your companion, the Aare, why not fortify yourself in one of the inviting street cafés in Baden's bustling pedestrian streets?

From Baden to Gebensdorf, the Limmat flows alongside you, sometimes close and sometimes a little more distant. The Aare awaits you in Brugg, flowing together with the Limmat and Reuss a little further north to form the famous moated castle. Our tip: set up a family picnic here. The floodplain landscapes that line the banks are home to unique plants and eager animals, such as the beaver.

Aarau is the ideal place for a break. Take a detour into the historic old town and let yourself be enchanted by the alleyways with moats, steps, colorful house facades and gabled roofs. The last stage takes you along the Aare to Olten, the fortified town of Aarburg and finally to the fountain town of Zofingen.
