At Karlbad on the Nockalmstraße, hiking trail 122 crosses a small bridge and then continues along the Karlbach stream towards Zechnerscharte and Friesenhalssee. On this route, a open larch and stone pine forest initially delights the hiking heart, about 20 minutes later open alpine meadows appear. In the morning, there is a good chance to see marmots here. At the idyllic Friesenhalssee, the route continues along trails 118 and 125, which lead to the great Königstuhl (2,336 m). There is the tripoint of Carinthia-Salzburg-Styria. From here, the path descends gently with a small ascent to the Karlnock, then downhill to Stangboden, where trail 117 leads back to Karlbad.
By car directly via the Nockalmstraße to Karlbad, 12 km from Innerkrems, 24 km from Ebene Reichenau. For Kärnten Card holders, use of the Nockalmstraße is free of charge.

Botany Tip - Silver Root
This Ice Age relic mainly grows on limestone. It gets its name from its evergreen leaves, which are white and felted on the underside. The plant can live for over 100 years. So-called emperor's tea made from the leaves has a calming effect.
