Today promises to be a truly pleasant hiking day. First, you walk through the romantic Salzbödetal on the edge of the Krofdorfer Forest. The Salzbödetal was already described by Rilke in 1905 as particularly scenic. Afterwards, we ascend the Altenberg, which dominates the landscape with its 299 m and offers wide views.
The stage starts in the quaint half-timbered village of Fronhausen with its choir tower church from the 12th century. First, you follow the access signs of the Lahnwanderweg (red LW on yellow background). It goes gently uphill and after about 2.5 km you reach the crest and meet the Lahnwanderweg again, which leads from here towards Lollar. Keep to the left and walk gently through the forest down into the Salzbödetal. After just one kilometre you reach the small village of Schmelz.
On the right is the Schmelzmühle. Here you can admire the old certificate (license to operate the mill) and the large mill wheel. The hospitable mill has been in the family since 1844. The snack menu with a farmer's breakfast, well-ripened handkäse and hearty homemade sausage is appreciated not only by locals. Afterwards, walk through the meadow pastures, always nicely along the forest edge, through the idyllic Salzbödetal.
The Schönemühle at the entrance to Salzböden is perfect for a coffee break. Past Salzböden and over the namesake brook, it now goes steeply uphill to the 299 m high Altenberg. At the top there is a beautiful rest area to relax and reflect. About 600 comfortable meters later, you reach the junction to Lollar. Now follow the access signage again.
In the Wehrholz you can admire the bird protection hut with its many different pretty birdhouses. Shortly before the stage destination Lollar, you finally cross the Lahn, which has now become a substantial river. On the right, take Marburger Straße to the town centre. After the village-like Fronhausen, Lollar already feels properly urban. Time for a stroll, a portion of ice cream or a cozy stop.
Normal hiking equipment required. Bring backpack snacks and drinks.
