Today is a truly relaxed hiking day. First, we climb the Altenberg, which dominates the landscape at 299 m. It's good that there are benches at the top to rest. Then it goes through the romantic Salzbödetal at the edge of the Krofdorfer Forest. The Salzbödetal was already described by Rilke in 1905 as particularly scenic.
From Lollar station, follow the directional signs of the Lahnwanderweg. The bridge offers a beautiful view of the Lahn. On the access path, pass Ruttershausen and go up to Wehrholz. Here you can admire the bird sanctuary hut with its many different ornate birdhouses. The path now steadily ascends to the Altenberg, which is 299 m high. At the top, there is a wonderful rest area to relax and reflect.
From Altenberg, the path leads steeply down to Salzböden. The Schönemühle at the edge of the village is perfect for a coffee break. The craftsmanship of the master confectioner is legendary. Then it goes through the meadow floodplains, always nicely along the forest edge, through the idyllic Salzbödetal. On the left is the Schmelzmühle. Here you can admire the old certificate (license for mill operations) and the large waterwheel.
The hospitable mill has been family-owned since 1844. The snack menu with farmer's breakfast, well-aged hand cheese, and hearty homemade sausage is appreciated not only by locals. A leisurely climb through the forest follows. At the top, do not miss the turnoff towards Fronhausen! Following the directional signs, now descend to today's stage destination. Fronhausen welcomes us with rustic half-timbered houses and the choir tower church from the 12th century.
Normal hiking equipment required. Bring a packed lunch and drinks.
