Malghe di Collalto loop

Leaving the Piancavallo Infopoint, from the entrance roundabout of the town, take the main paved road descending towards Aviano. Immediately after, take the paved forest road to the left near the electricity cabin. A few steps and you find yourself immersed in the typical beech forest of the area. At the left curve, before the Casera Collalt, turn right and continue for a short stretch until reaching the viewpoint over the Friulian plain.

Return to the trail, pass the shelter and cross the paved Castaldia-Collalto road. Continue following the white-red signs of the Passeggiata delle Malghe. At the intersection with the forest road, turn right, climb briefly until reaching a wide clearing. Look to the left to spot the CAI sign for Sentiero Fontanuzze. Proceed until the sign for CAI 985. Continue along the Fontanuzze-CAI 985 connector. From here you can admire numerous blooms and the unexpected panoramic view of the basin. At the junction with CAI 985, turn left to climb back towards Piancavallo.

The path reaches the Passeggiata delle Malghe, which you follow briefly to the right. Then turn left near the Casera del Medico, towards a fir grove. After a brief ascent, the CAI 985 trail crosses the wide and peculiar glaciokarst valley up to the forest road. Turn left and continue to Casera Caseratte, a restored and open shelter. Follow the indication Passeggiata della Malghe-Piancavallo and continue along the route. Cross the intersection with the forest road and follow the white-red signs. The path ends at Via Collalto. Following the paved road you return to the starting point.
