Stop in Maniago, the City of Cutlery, so called because since the Middle Ages the waters of the Colvera and the manual skill of the local people have combined to create numerous workshops and then industries that still thrive today. Dedicate some time to the Museum of Blacksmith Art, an example of a modern exhibition and workshop reality, capable of welcoming, guiding, and evoking suggestions, of an art and its territory. Then walk through the town center, visiting the cathedral, a harmonious example of Romanesque architecture.

Now you can leave the city and climb up to enter another world: the Val Colvera. This valley, especially at certain times of the year, in late spring or early autumn, appears like an enchanted place of woods and small villages, of ancient stories that tell of spirits and nature creatures, such as the agane, beings connected to waters, found in many cultures.

The road climbs slowly and sinuously, until you reach Poffabro, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, a panoramic spot to contemplate the valley and to wander aimlessly through the alleys and old houses, surprised by the details and the care put almost everywhere, in the flowerbeds, on the facades, in the balconies, and in the harmony that dominates the village.

From there you reach Frisanco, another precious village of Val Colvera, similar yet different from the previous one, with alleys and stone houses, sudden openings onto meadows and mountains. Continue surrounded by woods and silences, through Valdistali, until you encounter another small village, Preplans, an example of that movement of thoughts and people who first abandoned these areas and now return, in search of peace and beauty. From there, crossing the Meduna river, you can shortly reach Meduno, the end of this perhaps challenging but undeniably charming stage.

The route passes through several towns, so it is possible to find refreshment points and water along the way.
