The Festival route on the west shore of Lake Neusiedl connects some of the most beautiful places in Burgenland and combines cultural highlights with appealing wine and culinary experiences. Along the way, you will encounter the picturesque old town of Rust with its baroque townhouses, can take a look behind the scenes at the Mörbisch am See and St. Margarethen festival venues, and admire the magnificent Esterházy Palace in the Haydn metropolis Eisenstadt. Gourmet delights await at Taubenkobel in Schützen, at the Wine Academy Rust and at the Castle Wine Shop Eisenstadt. Quiet culture lovers will probably enjoy alternative offerings too – like the program at Cselley Mill Oslip or the “Place of Freedom,” where European history was once made.
This variant of the Festival route is a small loop of the Festival route.
The loop/variant runs from Eisenstadt to Schützen am Gebirge, on to Oslip and via Trausdorf back to Eisenstadt.
Other variants are:
Loop/variant 1: Donnerskirchen - Oggau - Oslip - Schützen - Donnerskirchen
Loop/variant 2: Rust - St. Margarethen - Trausdorf - Oslip - Oggau - Rust
Loop/variant 3: Mörbisch - St. Margarethen - Rust - Mörbisch
Because many cycle paths are agricultural estate roads, agricultural traffic must be expected. Mutual consideration ensures that these paths remain pleasant for everyone to use.
Austria: There is a bicycle helmet obligation for children up to 12 years old. Reflective vests are not mandatory at dusk, darkness or poor visibility, but certainly advantageous. Here is the Austrian bicycle regulation.
Slovakia: Bicycle helmet obligation applies to all children under 15 years of age. For adults, the helmet obligation applies only outside urban areas. However, it is strongly recommended that adults also always wear a bicycle helmet. Cyclists riding on the roadside under limited visibility must wear visible signaling elements or a reflective vest.
Hungary: There is no helmet obligation for cyclists. The maximum speed for cyclists outside built-up areas is 40 km/h. A speed of 50 km/h is allowed if the cyclist wears a helmet. At night and in poor visibility, all cyclists must wear a reflective vest.
Travel documents: A valid identity card or passport is mandatory!
