Forggensee round

You start at the Schlossbrauhaus and cycle leisurely towards the district of Brunnen. The route is flat up to there. After the Kar bridge, a gentle ascent begins. On the right side, a short detour to the chapel "Maria am Weg" is worthwhile.

Continue through blooming meadows to Hegratsrieder See, one of the warmest bathing lakes in the Schwangau and Buching region. On a hill by the lake lies the Hegratsrieder Hof with its small chapel – a harmonious picture. Here it means: down a gear and pedal vigorously, as the climb goes on for a while.

After about 500 meters on the bike path, turn sharply left. Now the tour becomes pure pleasure: it goes steadily downhill. Continue past Illasbergsee towards the next ascent. Once at the top, you are rewarded with a wonderful view of the Alpine foothills, Neuschwanstein Castle, the parish church of Waltenhofen, and the Tannheimer mountains. A stop at the Panorama barn is highly recommended here.

After a short descent, you reach the information center at the power plant, which offers fascinating insights into the construction and operation of this impressive facility.

You cycle past it and tackle the next climb. After the descent, you reach the art park "Via Claudia Augusta." Maybe lock your bike briefly here, lean against one of the Roman guards, and take a break – before the last mountain stage awaits.

Then you cycle on the bike path towards Roßhaupten. Shortly before the town, turn left towards Füssen. If strength and stamina falter, from June 1 you can use the Forggensee ship and take the return trip comfortably.

Through the villages of Dietringen and Osterreinen, continue towards Füssen. A detour to the Füssen Festival Hall is definitely worthwhile: from there you have a wonderful view of Waltenhofen Church and Neuschwanstein Castle.

Then cycle through Weidachstraße in Füssen to the hydroelectric power plant in Schwangau. Here a last glance back to the historic old town of Füssen is worthwhile, which looks particularly beautiful from this perspective.

Since cycling on the dam is prohibited, you have to push your bike briefly over the Lech. Then follow the bike path towards Horn and ride past the thermal bath back to Schwangau.

A wonderful route – and also manageable for recreational cyclists.

We recommend: bicycle helmet, weather-appropriate clothing, drinks, first aid kit, and a repair kit.
