The beautiful and scenic via ferrata on the north side of the Tegelberg offers impressive panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the Alpine foothills. However, it should not be underestimated: the 1,000-meter-long route requires not only good fitness but also strength and climbing technique, especially on the demanding traverses. A surefootedness and freedom from vertigo are essential here, as the route partly contains steep and exposed sections. For experienced via ferrata climbers, this route is a true highlight that combines both a sporting challenge and breathtaking natural experiences.
From the Tegelbergbahn valley station, head towards the Gelbe-Wand via ferrata, from which the Tegelbergsteig branches off. The distinctive rock pinnacle of the Gelbewandschrofen is climbed over vertical rock walls, slabs, corners, and rock bands.
The start of the Tegelbergsteig lies directly on the Gelbe-Wand via ferrata and begins with an approximately 15-meter-long ladder (B). Then keep left (B/C) and it goes steeply upwards immediately. After this passage, a small bench awaits you for your first rest break. Now diagonally left (C) to a somewhat easier traverse (A/B) and up to checkpoint 23, which is located on a grassy ridge. From here, you complete three climbing sections (B/C) up to point 24. Straight up again (C) and you reach another traverse (B/C), which leads to a ramp (B). After a slight descent, you reach the next bench where you can sign the summit register.
After a short break comes an exhausting traverse (B/C), which ends amidst mountain pine. Over a wooden bridge to checkpoint 26, then steeply up again (B/C) and above the crevice to the rock window. On the last few meters of the route, the highest point is soon reached. Time to enjoy the magnificent view in peace once more! Secured (B), you descend and reach the Gelbe-Wand via ferrata again. After about 60 meters, this turns into a hiking trail that takes about half an hour to lead you back to the Tegelbergbahn mountain station.
Climbing-appropriate shoes, via ferrata set, harness, helmet, possibly a short rope, first aid kit, mobile phone, drinks
Attention, winter closure, the safety cables are partially removed then! The via ferrata is only to be ascended upwards; emergency numbers can be found on the route and should be given if needed.

At the Mountain Lodge information building in the valley area of the Tegelbergbahn, interested alpine sports enthusiasts can get a taste of via ferrata climbing. Via ferrata sets can be rented at Armins Sporthäusle in Schwangau (Tel. +49 8362 81198, info@sporthaeusle.de). The small training facility at the mountain sports center allows first attempts at via ferrata climbing and offers ideal training conditions. The climbing rocks with hanging bridge for children and the slackline park complete the entry offer. The info building is also the starting point for guided tours by regional mountain guides.
It is best to start early in the morning to avoid waiting at the via ferrata.
