Path of Faith 15 - Heldenberg Trail

The parking lot near the Landgasthof Heldenberg is the ideal starting point for this 8-kilometer loop hike. From there, the trail leads along the edge of the forest around the Heldenberg. The route then leads to the Schwarzhornhaus, which is a great place to take a break. Shortly afterward, you’ll reach the “Reiterleskapelle,” a small religious gem that’s well worth a brief visit. The trail continues through the picturesque Christental valley, which impresses with its mystical atmosphere, all the way to the village of Lauterstein. There, the trail follows Christentalstraße and Kirchstraße, which eventually lead back to the starting point.

We recommend ankle-high hiking boots with good traction, weather-appropriate clothing, and plenty of drinks. A small snack is a good idea for breaks along the way, and hiking poles are recommended if needed.

When wet, some sections of the trail may be slippery. Sturdy footwear and sure footing are especially recommended on the nature trails. Stay on the marked trails and follow the on-site signs.

From Stuttgart/Ulm, take the B10 to the Süßen exit. Then take the B466 toward Heidenheim until you reach Nenningen.

The Schwarzhornhaus is a great place to take a break and enjoy the panoramic view. The Löwenbank on Heldenberg, the Reiterles Chapel, and St. Mary’s Chapel with its Pietà are also lovely spots for a short break.
