The road to Saas-Fee was only built in 1951, and already then the residents of Saas-Fee decided to remain car-free. The pack trail is the old path from Saas-Grund to Saas-Fee, on which goods and tourists were transported by pack mules or by human power alone.
The pack trail begins at the Postplatz in Saas-Grund. After the bridge towards Saas-Fee, the path leads down to the right to the signpost. Here begins the ascent into the forest. After a few minutes of walking, the road is crossed for the first time. Above the road you reach the St. Joseph Chapel, which was built on a rock ledge and offers a beautiful view of Saas-Grund. The pack trail continues through rocky forest terrain to the road, which is crossed here for the second time. From the road, the last section of the pack trail leads up to the hamlet of Wildi in Saas-Fee.
