One round around is not difficult, but beautiful. The approximately 10-kilometer-long panoramic route leads around the spa town of Stützerbach. Along the way, the hiker can catch wonderful views over the many slate-covered roofs of the small town.
From the little Rabental through the Mühlberg to below the forest guesthouse "Auerhahn" the path continues to Schloßberg. From the site of the former hunting lodge, the hiker is offered one of the most beautiful views of the town.
Health is also promoted here: In line with Kneipp tradition, a refreshing arm bath awaits along the path.
On clear days, views extend to the Schmücke and the Schneekopf. Impressive are the changing beauty of the landscapes, the diverse flora, and the mysterious tranquility. The dreamlike views of the mountain backdrop around the town are as impressive as the view from above over the extensive forest area.

Be aware of the typical dangers of the forest! Hiking is at your own risk! Avoid walking on moss-covered stones and rocks due to the risk of slipping and watch out for deadwood, branches, and fallen trees.
Coming from the A71, take exit 16 (Ilmenau-West) and follow the signs in Ilmenau towards Schmiedefeld at the Rennsteig.
On weekends, you can conveniently reach Stützerbach station by train. The route Ilmenau - Stützerbach - Rensteig station is served by the RennsteigShuttle from SüdThüringenBahn.
