But that beer and bratwurst are an indispensable part of Thuringia's table culture is modern general knowledge. The geo- and enjoyment trail „From Beer to Bratwurst“ is very different from its 16 geo-guides, because here it is less about the history of the earth's interior and more about what it produces. For example, hops and barley. This is where geology meets pleasure, and with a little wink. The soil is the link between geology and the pleasure products. It plays the main role on the Geo- und Genussweg. Along this hiking route, several large sculptures by the Arnstadt artist Christoph Hodgson give beer and bratwurst a spatial dimension befitting their status. The starting point of the enjoyable geo-tour is the city brewery in Arnstadt. The first wheat beer outside of Bavaria was brewed here in 1617, although the first news about the town's brewing industry dates back to 1407. The first mention of bratwurst can also be found in Arnstadt. It dates back to 1404 and can be seen on a wooden relief in Arnstadt's Virgins' Monastery. And as if that weren't enough, musical genius Johann Sebastian Bach married for the first time in the small village church in Dornheim (near Arnstadt). In 1707, he gave his consent to Maria Barbara, a second cousin. When she died in 1720, Bach married the soprano Anna Magdalena only a year later. However, in the Anhaltian town of Köthen. PS: There is even a primeval dinosaur that scientists have named after the tasty Thüringer Bratwurst: Tambachia trogallas (literally ütranslated: the „sausage-munching dinosaur“). A reconstruction of this little fellow can be found on the Dinosaur Adventure Trail (GeoRoute 6).
