Already during the nineteenth century, with the opening of the carriage road, the great accessibility of this alpine village made Faido a preferred holiday destination for the upper bourgeoisie and Milanese nobility.
Imposing hotels, now closed, and Art Nouveau style villas are clear evidence of this glorious past. Faido's golden age of tourism peaked at the end of the Belle Époque: in 1913, a stay in Faido cost more than one in San Moritz!
Nowadays, Faido's true treasure lies in the natural resources present in the area. The Piumogna waterfall is an extraordinary sight easily accessible on foot from the train station or by car. The mountains surrounding the village are also highly evocative. Pizzo Pettine, Pizzo Molare, Pizzo Forno, and naturally Carì, a locality made famous by the presence of a sunny ski resort, can be chosen as ideal destinations for fantastic alpine hikes.

Montagnepulite: This project was created to promote the effective and sustainable management of alpine huts in the Ticino area. In particular, the management of waste. Responsible waste management in the mountains is a matter of common sense. We can all contribute: www.montagnepulite.ch
