Na-Route in OstseeFerienLand

Start in the green lung of our country, the 600-hectare STAATSFORST KELLENHUSEN with its many attractions. In the WILDSCHWEINGEHEGE you can watch the wild boars from up close (feeding April to October Wed. 3:30 pm), in the HUNDEAUSLAUFGATTER your four-legged friend can romp to their heart's content, minor family members prefer the ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND.

Sweet honey and fresh game meat are offered by forester Thomas Thiede in the FÖRSTEREI (thomas.thiede@forst-sh.de). Our route leads straight through the forest to the K50. There you turn right and ride on the well-developed bike path until you reach the road to GRUBERHAGEN on the left.

Turn left and ride past DAHMER HOLZKOPPEL, a beautiful mixed forest with old beech and oak trees and a paradise for bird lovers: 41 bird species including great spotted woodpecker, green woodpecker, middle spotted woodpecker, wood warbler, chiffchaff, and willow warbler as well as the rare eagle owl live here.

The track towards GRUBE is pure nature. It smells of grain, rapeseed, freshly cut hay, also of horses, sheep, and cows. Fancy a break? Take a detour to GRUBE and rest at LANDKRUG GRUBER HOF and enjoy its traditional Holstein cuisine (Hauptstraße 55).

Watch the famous GRUBER STORKS. Every year they occupy their nest on the old chimney near the Gruber church. Life in the stork's nest is broadcast directly onto a television in the window of the VILLAGE MUSEUM. Next, continue with a loop past the BIRD OBSERVATION STATION over the GRUBER-SEE-KOOG, a polder reclaimed from the sea by diking and drainage.

On the right you see the OLDENBURGER GRABEN NATURE EXPERIENCE AREA, the largest lowland in northeastern Schleswig-Holstein. Large parts of the approximately 5,000-hectare wetland lie below sea level. The bike route now leads you to KOSELAU, first mentioned in 1238 but much older, as evidenced by Neolithic flint tools found in the fields. On the right lies the OLDENBURGERGRABEN again, on the left the DAMLOSER FOREST with its Bronze Age megalithic tombs. In Sebent you turn and ride via DAMLOS with its thatched houses to LENSAHN.

In Lensahn, relax at the MÜHLENTEICH AM KURPARK or enjoy a walk on the 2.4 km long NATURE TRAIL of the MUSEUMSHOF LENSAHN with its diverse stations. Discover the HISTORIC FARMER'S GARDEN and the HILDEGARD VON BINGEN GARDEN with over 50 different herbs. The FIRST NATURE ISLAND IN GERMANY offers a protected habitat for animals.

Past the mill pond, you cycle south, then turn left onto the K58, through MANHAGEN over MANHAGENERFELDE into the SIEVERSHAGENER FOREST with its megalithic tombs. Follow the path to BRENKENHAGEN, take an excursion along the asphalt road towards BLIESDORF and enjoy the GREAT PANORAMIC VIEW of the Lübeck Bay and as far as the Bungsberg. Afterwards, cycle either back to BRENKENHAGEN and then on the bike path to Grömitz.

Alternatively, you can cycle on the shoulder of the B 501 towards GRÖMITZ and take a detour to the GRÖMITZ MARINA.

Take a short rest there on the wooden loungers, eat a fish sandwich, and possibly explore the CLIFF COAST. Then continue straight through GRÖMITZ and along the dike to LENSTERSTRAND. Behind Camping Mare turn left to LENSTE. The path leads through fields past the Wildkoppel to B501 to CISMAR. Here turn left to the next TOP DETOUR: the CAFÉ ZUM ZIEGELHOF, with a Holstein farm shop, in summer there are fresh strawberries (www.hof-mougin.de). With a taste of strawberries in your mouth, ride through Cismar to GRÖNWOHLDSHORST and turn right into the STAATSFORST. Now you pass the FAMOUS OAKS. Afterwards, it goes through the forest back to the car park.

Coming on the A1 from Lübeck-Hamburg please use the Lensahn exit and turn right towards Cismar. In Rüting turn left towards Grube, Dahme, and Kellenhusen. On arrival in Grube, turn right towards Kellenhusen. At the intersection leave B 501 to the right. In the small town of Grönwoldshorst
