Forest and wine, sporty ascents and descents, wonderful views such as Goethe point, Wolfslei or Gabelstein, lonely valley cuts. Castles rise high above the slope in Balduinstein and Laurenburg – hiking heart, what more do you want? The stage is quite sporty, as several climbs await. So reduce speed and go slowly. Over rocks, partly secured with cables, you climb along a ridge. A head for heights and sure-footedness are necessary, but there is also an easy (without climbing) alternative.
Viewpoints line up like pearls on a string on this stage! Over the Lahn bridge and past quaint wine taverns, it goes steeply uphill through Obernhof. It's worth turning around from time to time to take a look at Arnstein Monastery on the opposite bank of the Lahn. Soon the question arises: via ferrata yes or no? The more difficult variant leads over rope-secured and sure-footed passages, the comfortable variant is very easy to manage.
As a reward, a viewing plateau called the "Fernseher" awaits at the Goethe point. From here, the path leads quietly and idyllically through the forest, then over meadow paths and later past rock formations to the Wolfslei. After a scenic rest, you continue down over the flotation slag heap to Laurenburg.
In Laurenburg, you cross the Lahn. On the other side of the Lahn, it goes again through the forest and zigzag down to the Ruppach bridge. It gets sporty as you go uphill towards Steinsberg. The path leads through the Höllenloch to the shelter at Gabelstein, where the next impressive view awaits.
After leaving the forest of the Gabelstein-Höllenloch nature reserve, the Schaumburg majestically appears before the hiker. At Saukopp, there is one last gigantic view of the Lahn loop, then the path leads downhill to Balduinstein. Here, restaurants and cozy inns invite you to stop for a break.
