GTL mountain biking | Stage 11 Albaretto della Torre - Benevello
Starting from the center of Albaretto della Torre, you pass right in front of the "Botega 'd Cesare", leaving the town towards Tre Cunei, opposite the church of San Bernardo, to immediately go up on the...
The road, closed to motor traffic and decorated with the route of the Via Crucis, proceeds sinuously on a flat surface until it reaches, shortly after the fountain from which it takes its name, the provincial road on the ridge. With some attention (to the cars and motorbikes) go along it to the left and, halfway along the next straight, go down to the left again onto a small asphalt road (with the Cascina Corylicola sign). You proceed on level ground on nice gravel among the hazelnut trees, you pass a spring with a beautiful cut of exposed rock, until you reach a farmhouse. The road becomes a dirt road and continues on grass, slightly downhill and then climbs with a couple of hairpin bends to the hamlet of Burdia.
Here a plaque commemorates the birthplace of the luthier Pressenda who from this remote stone farmhouse went to Turin to build sublime and today unobtainable melody instruments.A beautiful but steep gravel road allows you to reach the provincial ridge again near the crossroads for Benevello, where the Serravalle - Cerretto - Arguello - Lequio Berria deviation also rejoins the main route.
You then cross the provincial road and follow the signs for Benevello, to leave the asphalt at the first crossroads and go up to the left, on a gravel road, go along the panoramic ridge and, having passed an obvious aqueduct deposit, go down to a saddle. From here you leave the ridge and go down the dirt road to the left, to gently lose altitude among the hazelnut groves until you reach the asphalt near the Cascina Pian dei Gatti. It is necessary to proceed to the left, briefly taking the provincial road again for about 600 metres, and thus reach a clear flat crossroads. From here you turn right and go up the unclear dirt road that runs along the ridge.
The road becomes more marked and, still remaining close to the very panoramic crest, it reaches the provincial road again near the Belmondo houses and the small church of the Madonna di Langa. You need to proceed again on the provincial road for a couple of kilometers to reach the first houses of Benevello: a crossroads on the right allows you to reach, with a final climb, the town square, with its castle.
