The route enters the forest retracing the path of the now disused Decauville railway and passes next to the Beatrix Alpine hut. The route continues on the dirt road that climbs from Rochemolles until reaching the Rochemolles Dam.
The Decauville railway line, built between 1919 and 1921 to allow the transport of materials needed for the construction of the Rochemolles Dam, was 7.8 km long and 2 meters wide and laid its tracks on the current route.
The Rochemolles Dam was built from 1924 to 1930 by the State Railways who, following the electrification of several railway lines including the Turin - Modane line, decided to become independent in energy production.
1968, with the transfer of ownership of the dam and all movable and immovable properties from the State Railways to Enel, marked the end of the railway.

From Bardonecchia, reach the Frejusia Basins by car (in summer also accessible by the Jafferau cable car). From here, the flat Decauville dirt road starts. Follow it passing next to the Beatrix Alpine hut and cross the characteristic U-shaped bridge over the Valfredda River. Continue until joining the road coming from Rochemolles and climb up to the Dam.

Road closed to motor vehicles from the Frejusia Basins to the dirt road junction from Rochemolles and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Rochemolles to the Scarfiotti Refuge.
By car:
- A32 Torino - Bardonecchia highway, Bardonecchia exit
- State Road 24: Torino - Oulx and then State Road 335: Oulx - Bardonecchia
Once you reach Bardonecchia, head towards the hamlets of Millaures and Le Gleise, pass them and reach the Frejusia Basins (7 km).
By train:
- Torino Porta Nuova - Bardonecchia line
Once you reach Bardonecchia, in summer, from Via Torino (100 m from the train station) take the free shuttle Line 7 to the Jafferau square where the cable car departs.

WARNING: the shuttle and cable car are active for about a month only, between July and August
There is a large dirt clearing at the Frejusia Basins.
