On one of the largest rivers in Europe, you can experience a very special cultural journey. An impressive density of sights lines the shores of the Rhine between Lake Constance and the Rhine Falls.
You start in the thousand-year-old town of Stein am Rhein, which is counted among the most beautiful towns in Switzerland. On the crystal-clear water, you glide relaxed, carried by the current, past historic houses, monasteries, and old fortifications – repeatedly interrupted by charming nature and inviting bathing beaches.
For culinary enjoyment, numerous inns directly on the water provide perfect spots for a pleasurable break on the way, many of them with their own landing stages.
The arrival town of Schaffhausen is also worth a stroll through the alleys of the charming old town. At the end of your route, you can climb up to the old fortification, the Munot, and let your gaze wander over the Rhine town – or make a detour to the Rhine Falls, where the water masses plunge 23 meters down and offer a spectacular natural spectacle.
In Stein am Rhein, put in after the ship landing. Here, the current is quite weak but there is heavy traffic. After the bridges of Hemishofen, waves form. Keep to the right bank. Wave formation at Rheinklingen. Evade early. In Diessenhofen, the scheduled ship docks. To continue, the ship must turn around and needs the entire width of the Rhine to do so. You can paddle undisturbed right at the shore. Shortly after Büsingen, switch again to the right side. The last exit is before the railway bridge in Schaffhausen at Lindli by the Salzstadel.
