Everyday signs
There is no path, no trail without a story. Each has its landmarks, milestones, beacons… Sometimes it's water: a worn stone washhouse, a fountain carved in the image of a legend, a more prosaic drinking trough, a spring named after a fairy or a place. It is often a mark of memory: a secular cross bearing the memory of a fatal accident, of someone who was once happy to be there, of a child killed on other “glorious” paths. It is also a religious imprint: numerous Cathar and Catholic crosses, calvaries and steles… Each marker is part of the walker's daily experience. Sometimes they hang their jacket or bag on it, sit to enjoy a snack or just rest, reassured they are on the right path.
