Wild waters and rocky ravines

The Rienz Ravine, located near Natz, presents hikers with a breathtaking journey through a natural river landscape, characterized by steep rock formations adorned with trees and shrubs, accompanied by the thundering waters of the Rienz River. This ravine, approximately 200 meters deep, was sculpted during the last Ice Age some 15,000 years ago, when immense glacial rivers carved through the valley.

Starting from Natz-Schabs, hikers have the opportunity to traverse the Rienz Ravine via two bridges: the Rienz Bridge in Natz and the Rundlbrücke Bridge in Schabs. The latter provides scenic views of the decommissioned Rundl power plant, constructed in 1903. Resembling a castle in its architectural design, this power plant serves as a testament to the significance placed on "new" energy sources at the onset of the 20th century. However, the plant remains closed to visitors.
